About us

Sultan’s first foundation store was opened in Victoria in 1993 as a small butcher shop. After a remarkable growth the owner Necmi Kul and family decided to go into a new business investment to meet the needs of Australian customers in Halal smallgoods, meat, poultry, kebab, lamb and processed meat products and the company was established in 2001 under the name of Sultan Halal Meat and Poultry.

In a short time, Sultan Halal Meat and Poultry became very popular in Australian’s multicultural community in terms of manufacturing and packaging delicious smallgoods products, preparing kebab rolls and tasting quality raw meat products. By producing over 300 types of products, the company still continues to gain high customer satisfaction and positive feedback substantially since 2001 to date.

The company has a total of 50 employees and currently serve more than 300 customers and supply all states across Australia.

What is Halal?

Halal means “permissible” in Arabic and refers to food items that are permissible to consume under Islamic Law. Halal food laws are based on interpretation of the Muslim scripture and set out the range of beverages and foods that are acceptable for Muslims to eat.

Why Halal Is Good?

The halal method of preparing an animal for food allows maximum drainage of blood from the animal’s body. Blood in meat makes it more susceptible to putrefaction and also negatively impacts taste. Methods using stunning cause an animal to secrete lactic acid which hastens the onset of putrefaction because lactic acid makes the meat less resistant to bacteria. Lactic acid also significantly negatively impacts taste.

Halal meat tastes better, is more tender, is healthier and stays fresh longer because the absence of blood makes it resistant to bacteria.

What is Halal Certification?

Halal certification means that a product’s contents and manufacture has been endorsed by an appropriate religious authority as meeting the Islamic requirements relating to food. This certification began in Australia firstly in 1994 and The Australian Federation of Islamic Council (AFIC) was recommended as the sole authority for the standardization an oversight for food products purchased by religious Muslim in Australia.
